Around the World
Enhancing Literacy and Global Citizenship through Youth Engagement
This spring World Literacy of Canada will once again be partnering with the Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office and Oxford University Press for our third season of the Around the World project. The spring session will run for 8 weeks in April, May and June of 2009. We look forward to teaching this year's participants about how they can become Global Citizens, while enhancing their communication and leadership skills as well as their knowledge of current and global affairs.
This years sessions will be structured around different regions around the world and will include a variety of engaging activities to provide a fun and unique learning experience. Each participant will be recieving their own atlas, courtesy of Oxford University Press, as well as a variety of other tools to aid them in their journeys around the world. All participants will get to keep their toolkits at the end of the sessions in order to continue to learn about the world in the years to come.
The Around The World project helps the community to create a space for youth to learn about global issues and to explore what role they play at the local and global level. The project also provides volunteer opportunities, leadership skill development, and access to reading material with materials donated by Oxford University Press. Another great aspect to this project is the development of partnerships between local businesses, organizations and community members.
