Communities We Serve
In India
The main region of focus for World Literacy's India Program is in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, which has the largest population of any Indian state and some of the greatest needs. Low literacy rates, high levels of poverty, and the need for improvement of women's rights have resulted in World Literacy of Canada's increased focus in this area over the past decade. World Literacy of Canada runs six projects within the city of Varanasi, which is home to the World Literacy of Canada India Office, and supports seven NGO partner projects in rural communities in the greater surrounding area. All of World Literacy of Canada's partner projects are within a five hour driving distance from the World Literacy of Canada office in Varanasi.
In Nepal
The Nari Bikash Sangh project, supported by World Literacy of Canada in Nepal is located in the southeastern rural area of the country, approximately 500 kilometres from the capital city of Kathmandu.
