Gandhi Day
World Literacy of Canada encourages principals, teachers, and community program leaders to celebrate Gandhi's birthday on October 2nd. In India, October 2nd, also known as “Gandhi Day,” is designated a national holiday and celebrated in schools around the country. At World Literacy of Canada’s India branch office in Varanasi, we celebrate Gandhi Day every year with our scholarship and tutorial students.
Gandhi is not only an Indian national hero but an international symbol of peace, non-violent resistance, and social justice. Gandhi serves as the ultimate role model for students and teachers alike, particularly in schools whose curricula address the ever-rising need to teach global citizenship and social responsibility. In our attempts to teach children just and effective means of addressing the world’s problems, the example of Gandhi’s life and work serves as an invaluable tool.
