World Literacy Canada’s Teacher’s Fund will train and mentor 400 young women as teachers, who will in turn provide over 20 000 women and children in their communities with literacy and numeracy skills.

In World Literacy’s informal classrooms, women and children’s lives are transformed as they learn to read and write. But many teachers lack basic classroom tools needed to enrich their students’ learning. Your gift will supply an entire classroom with tools like books, chalkboards, art materials, notebooks, pencils and more.

Each year, World Literacy Canada marks International Women’s Day in India by organizing a women’s kabaddi tournament. Kabaddi is a popular rugby-like Indian sport, that is traditionally played only by men. Your donation will help train a woman, while encouraging communities to come together and recognize women as independent athletes.

$50 to train an athlete
World Literacy Canada trains young women to teach literacy to adults and children in remote areas. However, for many women, commuting to these jobs can mean traveling up to 5 km each day on foot. Your gift will provide an economical means of transportation to a teacher, allowing her to become more independent and responsive to community needs.
DONATE $60 to give a teacher a bicycle
Many women living in poverty have the will to work and the skills to do so, but have little to no money to realize their dreams. Your gift will provide a loan so a woman can launch a small business as a seamstress, a beautician, or even open her own shop! As loans are repaid, your gift will be re-loaned to help another woman in need.

Each visit to a community library provides people of all ages with treasured access to books and educational toys. But without a refreshed supply of materials, it isn’t long before these eager learners have read every book on the shelf. Your gift will help keep our libraries stocked with up-to-date books and learning tools.

Without proper nutrition, children can’t learn. Many families cannot afford to provide their children with healthy meals, leaving students hungry and unable to concentrate during class. Your gift will supply an entire classroom with fruit and high-nutrition biscuits, allowing them to feel healthy, energized and ready to learn.

For just $300 per year, you can help us offer a child an education and the hope of a better future. We will assign your donation to a specific child, and send you annual photographs and updates on their progress. The low cost covers tuition, uniforms, books, transportation, and after-school tutoring for an entire year.
DONATE $300 – less than $1 per day – to support a full scholarship
Provide a poor community with its own library. World Literacy Canada’s gumti libraries (road-side stalls) provide hundreds of families in slums and remote villages with precious access to books, games, and educational toys. Your gift will provide the funds necessary to build, furnish, and stock one of these vital community resources.
DONATE $1000 to open a community library
Your donation will help send a child to our Big Day Out summer day camp, allowing them to explore parts of the city beyond their own under-served neighbourhood. Our aim is to strengthen the children’s future by encouraging them to become the next generation’s leaders.
