Katie Hu's Story
"Crash Landing"
After hours of walking across the desert under the blazing-hot sun, Matt collapsed in front of the village doors, completely worn out. That was how the village inhabitants found him: stretched out on the sandy ground, fast asleep.
Awaking to find himself on a straw pallet in a small hut, Matt got up and yawned, refreshed from his sleep. A young woman named Lola came in and told Matt to follow her. She led Matt to a humungous stone building where Christopher Walker, the governor of the village, awaited him. After introductions were done, Christopher told him, “If there’s anything you need, will try our best to help you.”
“Could someone help me repair my airship, the Silver Living?” Matt asked.
“A villager named Abu used to be a mechanic. He may be able to help you,” the governor replied.
“I will not help you!” was Abu’s angry response when Matt asked him to aid him in repairing his airship. Discouraged, Matt wandered back to the hut.
Along the way he saw Lola again. When Matt asked her about Abu, she told him that Abu’s former employer had been very cruel to him because he was racist against people of Abu’s culture and that Abu had held a grudge against white-skinned people ever since.
The next day, Matt and Abu were at the waterhole fetching water when a fierce wild boar charged at Abu from behind. Matt saw it and pushed Abu out of the way, just in time to save Abu from getting impaled on the boar’s sharp tusks.
Abu is grateful to Matt for saving life and in return, helps Matt repair his airship. When his beloved Silver Lining is finally good to go, Matt gives Abu a big hug, and flies away, off to another adventure.
