Write/Right to Read History
Write/Right to Read is an innovative family literacy program developed by World Literacy of Canada in consultation with librarians, teachers, parents and grassroots literacy providers and educators. It is delivered in the form of an annual creative writing competition for Canadian children in Grades 4 through 6.
Incorporating the mandate of our Canadian Program to inspire global citizenship, the 2010 Write/Right to Read Contest encourages the contestants to write a story on the theme of global citizenship.
To date, World Literacy of Canada has engaged more than 5000 Canadian children via the Write to Read program. We have also produced four unique Write to Read publications - a multimedia CD-ROM and three books - containing prize-winning original stories written by children across the country from Newfoundland to Nunavut!
